Colm Mac Eoin is a member of the Mental Health Commission's panel of legal representatives and has extensive experience acting on patients’ behalf in their Mental Health Tribunal Hearings.

With specialist expertise in mental health legislation, practical and knowledgeable advice and clear explanations free from legal jargon, Colm helps relieve the stress patients and their families experience when dealing with this area of the law. He advises and acts for patients across a range of areas, including interpretation of Mental Health legislation, representation at Mental Health Tribunals, advising on the status of voluntary patients, advice with respect to hospital treatment and advising patients with regard to mental capacity matters. He is also experienced in advising on the protection of vulnerable adults and making applications for wardship, appeals where mental health is an issue and enforcing protective orders where patients require treatment abroad, as well as their repatriation.

Tribunal Hearings

Colm Mac Eoin offers specialist advice and representation for patients in their Mental Health Tribunal hearings. There is no fee for representation at these hearings.

Wardship

When a person is no longer deemed to have the mental capacity to manage their affairs, an application can be made to the High Court for the person be made a Ward of Court. The court is then responsible for making decisions about their welfare and assets on their behalf.

Colm has in-depth knowledge of legislation and related regulations for Mental Health Law and Criminal Law (Insanity), including voluntary patient status, treatment definition and patient best interests.
